Today is Earth Day!
According to National Geographic, the day “honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources for future generations.”
The Town of Milton has a community clean-up campaign running until Friday, so if you want to help clean-up our streets and parks, grab a kit and get pickin’. Learn more here.
Will you be doing anything to celebrate Earth Day?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Pinkies Out: Milton Public Library announces Tea Festival
If you’re a tea drinker, you’ll love to hear that the Milton Public Library will hold a festival covering all things tea! Tea Fest will take place on Saturday, May 4th at the Sherwood Community Centre. It’s going to be an all day event, starting at 10am, and taking place inside Rink 2. There will be taste testing, vendors, workshops, and more – all focusing on some good ol’ chai. Some things do need pre-registration, so sign up now!
Daily WTF – Nigerian, American chess masters stage world-record attempt with 60-hour marathon in NYC
Two chess masters got together in Times Square recently to play chess for 60-straight hours. The goal was breaking the record for longest chess marathon. They originally planned for 58 hours, but decided at the last minute to go for another two hours for the heck of it. The previous record of 56 hours was set in Norway back in 2018. Guinness is still reviewing the record breaking bid, but my favourite thing about this one is that it’s not reliant on winning or losing. They played for 60 hours… There’s a chance one of them went like 155-10. Like, just pure domination. But the record would be the record, and that’s fun to me.
Construction season begins as Milton invests nearly $30 million into infrastructure
We’ve talked about it already, but the Town of Milton has essentially confirmed that yes, construction season is back. They’re spending nearly $30 million this year to improve roads and such around the community. That means you’ll experience all kinds of delays, lane closures, road closures, and you might see that guy with the stop sign that dances on a daily basis. Big fan of that guy. Take deep breaths, turn the music up, and relax. We’ll get through it together. The real question is: how much of Ontario Street is going under construction this year?
Daily Did You Know – The history behind Milton’s Nadalin Heights and Orr Terrace
Each week, Milton Historical Society President John Challinor details the origins of local street names. We covered streets named after a beloved Milton volunteer and a former local representative from way back when this week. We’ll have two more next week!
Everything you need to know ahead of the Milton by-election
We’re back into election season here in Milton. With Milton MPP Parm Gill stepping down to eventually run on the federal level for Conservative Party here in town, we now have an opening. All nine candidates have been made official. Advanced polling is officially open. Voting day is set for next Thursday. We’ll have interviews coming this week, so get ready for those. There’s going to be a lot of politics talk over the next 11 or so days, so buckle up.
Town of Milton receiving more than $1.3 million from OLG through quarterly payment
The Town of Milton is getting more than a million dollars from OLG! This isn’t some kind of sketchy pay off, it’s a standard, regular payment made to the town four times a year. They get this money because of Elements Casino Mohawk being in Campbellville. These payments have been coming in since 1999, and in that time, the Town has received over $142 million. Portions of this money is what funds the Milton Community Fund Program, which obviously helps the community.
Local charity head attempting ‘Tour de Halton’ to raise funds
A local resident is getting set to bike more than 100km on Friday. Halton Learning Foundation CEO Marc Clare will take off in Acton, bike through Georgetown, Milton, Oakville, and then settle in Burlington. His ‘Tour de Halton’ is a fundraising bike ride for his organization, as they aim to help students with food, clothing, school supplies and learning opportunities. Clare will also make pit stops at HDSB schools along the way. Good luck, Marc!
Harry Styles stalker jailed for sending him 8,000 cards in a month
Harry Styles has a superfan, and now that person is heading to jail. Myra Carvalho made 8,000 handwritten cards and sent them all to Styles within a month-long period. Known as the ‘Styles Stalker’, she’s been found guilty of stalking ol’ Harry and will spend 14-weeks in jail. She also received a 10-year restraining order, which has more serious consequences should she break it. So, a bit of a scary experience for Mr. Styles, hopefully this adds some sort of comfort for him because that would NOT be fun.
Restaurant in Italy offers free bottles of wine to customers who hand in phones
If you feel like you could go a whole meal without your cellphone, a restaurant in Italy is willing to give you a free bottle of wine! Al Condominio in Verona wants people off their phones, and so they’ve started this new promotional campaign. People hand their phones over to staff as they enter the restaurant, they get a free bottle of wine during dinner, and then they get their phones back after they pay for their meal. Reports are that reviews of the experience have been good, as people are able to enjoy their meals and their company without any pressure to check their emails, texts or social media. Would you do this? Could you give up your phone for a meal if it meant free wine? Let me know!
Therapists Think New York Times’ Wordle Is Becoming a Problem
Are you still keeping up with Wordle? The online word puzzle game went viral over the pandemic, with everyone posting their scores on social media. It spawned all kinds of copycat games, each with different themes and gimmicks, but the original game, Wordle, ended up being sold to the New York Times. In the years that followed, Wordle-mania has died down a little bit, but it still has a very dedicated following that play on a daily basis. Thing is, playing it every day might be a bad thing. Several therapists have gone on record to say the stress and anxiety caused by the game might not be worth the mental workout. They say people are stressing over having a good score, keeping their streaks going, and besting their friends. It seems they’re worried this has led to some mental health issues among their patients. Do you play Wordle still? Do you think it gives you anxiety? Let me know!
