Local preschoolers and veterans will have a chance to connect through the magic of art!
The FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton is launching a free art program, the Milton Veteran Creative Exchange – Empowering Generations Through Art. It’s a free multi-week, intergenerational arts program open to veterans, adults 55+ and preschoolers. Each week, a preschooler is paired with a veteran or a 55+ adult to partake in art activities and share a snack break together.
The program starts on Tuesday, May 28th and runs Tuesdays at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 136, located at 21 Charles Street in Milton. Registration is available online.
Interested participants can register individually and will be matched with either a preschooler or senior. Participants can also request their partner by emailing arts@milton.ca after both parties have registered.
In 2023, the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton had a program called the Milton Generations Creative Exchange. It ran in the spring, with a three-week display available in the summer. This year’s version of the program will be available throughout the year in three seasonal installments: spring, summer and fall. A special month-long gallery exhibition at the FirstOntario Arts Centre’s Holcim Gallery will take place in November where participants’ works of art will be displayed.
The Milton Veteran Creative Exchange program is hosted by The FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 136. This project was made possible thanks to the funding received from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), a federal grants and contributions program that supports community-based projects designed by seniors for seniors.
