A local business is donating to Halton Women’s Place.
Akal Optical held a food drive recently and collected items for the women’s shelter. The Halton Women’s Place has been at the top of people’s mind the last few months. The women’s shelter recently held their annual week long event, ‘Hope in High Heels’, that was done virtually. Coaches at the local gym ‘Reebok CrossFit FirePower’ also did burpees for seven straight hours to raise funds for Halton Women’s Place.
Akal collected valuable items for vulnerable women and matched the value dollar-for-dollar, reaching more than $2000 in total value.
Manager Reenu Sharma says she’s happy with the results of the drive.
November was also Women Abuse Prevention Month. myFM News spoke with the Development Manager of Halton Women’s Place, Carm Bozzo, a few weeks ago. You can read up on what the month means to the women’s shelter and how you can support it here.
Sharma says that they did get very busy during the drive, and that did take away some time from collecting items. COVID-19 has also been a factor. She hopes to make it an annual event so that she can continue to improve and help local women.
Bozzo tells myFM News that they were ecstatic to receive the donation:
“Halton Women’s Place wants to thank Akal Optical for their amazing food drive and monetary donation! We are so grateful for their support and generosity and it comes in a time when it is even more important to let the women and children in our shelters know how much they are supported!”
