The Hope in High Heels walk begins today.
The annual event raises funds for Halton Women’s Place. Due to COVID-19, the event had to make the switch from an in-person walk down Main Street to a now more common approach: virtual!
The Manager of Development and Communications with the shelter, Carm Bozzo, says it was an easy to decision to make this year’s event virtual.
Because Hope in High Heels has moved to online, Bozzo says the participants don’t need to wear the heels if they don’t want to. She adds that this year will not be limited to just boys and men; girls and women can contribute and help raise money for Halton Women’s Place.
Bozzo just wants to see you out on the street raising funds to fight women abuse.
To help make things interesting this year, the shelter wants to see you take pictures and videos of you out and about, as well as wear some pink attire. Bozzo says you should have fun with it because it’s usually a very fun event for a great cause. You can tag Halton Women’s Place on Facebook, on Twitter, and on Instagram.
The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t been easy on everyone, but it has caused the shelter to shift how they do certain things. She says their crisis calls decreased dramatically at the beginning of the pandemic. Despite how that may sound positive, it’s actually a very bad sign. As the shelter continues to reopen, they have seen their crisis numbers increase as more women are able to find safe spaces away from their significant others to call.
Bozzo talks about how things have changed due to COVID-19.
If you would like to register for Hope in High Heels and raise funds to fight women abuse, you can do so at the Halton Women’s Place website. The walk runs all week, ending on Saturday, September 26th.
