The Halton Region says that residents 16-years and older living in the Milton L9E postal code area will soon be able to book an appointment to receive their COVID-19 vaccine at a Halton Region COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic.
The shift begins on Friday, April 30th. Residents must have had their 16th birthday on or before the date of their first appointment in order to be eligible.
“Halton Region is pleased that we are able to offer appointments to more residents living in the Milton L9E postal code area,” says Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “Our ability to expand to more priority groups remains dependent on ongoing and predictable supplies from both the Provincial and Federal governments. We have capacity in our Vaccination Clinics to vaccinate double what we are doing now if more supply was available.”
The Milton L9E postal code area is a designated ‘hot spot’ in Phase 2 of the Province’s prioritization plan due to historical and ongoing high rates of COVID-19. The Halton Region continues to follow Provincial direction on prioritization and does not have the authority to grant exceptions.
Residents who are 40-years or older can also book appointments through multiple pharmacies in Halton offering the AstraZeneca vaccine. Hear from the Medical Officer of Health for the Region, Dr. Hamidah Meghani, explain why the AstraZeneca vaccine is safe to get here.
“The expansion to more residents in hot spot communities that are seeing a higher rate of COVID-19 transmission and severe health outcomes is critical,” says Dr. Meghani. “While vaccination is an important tool in curbing the spread of the virus and preventing severe illness and death, I urge all residents to continue to follow public health direction, including staying home except for essential trips, sticking to your household and not attending any indoor or outdoor gatherings.”
