The Halton Region’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hamidah Meghani, has answered a number of questions regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.
In the video, Dr. Hamidah Meghani says that she hopes residents get the vaccine, whichever one is available, as soon as possible.
She wants residents to get away from the idea of shopping for a particular vaccine, adding that the longer people wait for the particular vaccine they want, the longer the pandemic will continue.
Side-effects were also covered by Dr. Meghani. Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site are considered the most common side-effects with the COVID-19 vaccine. She says that these are mostly a good sign as vaccines are meant to trigger a new response. That said, if you experience no side-effects, that doesn’t mean the vaccine isn’t effective. That’s just a sign that everyone responds to vaccines differently.
Blood clots have been a common topic in the media when discussing the vaccine, particularly the AstraZeneca vaccine here in Canada. Dr. Meghani talks about how it’s not as serious as it sounds.
She adds that her own parents received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and she’s happy to know that they’ll soon have greater protection from COVID-19.
