For me, as someone who never really grew a fan of either sport, gymnastics and swimming are most watch television. I’ll always keep an eye on track & field as well, and I’m excited to see skateboarding and surfing this year. I think breakdancing is now a competition? Yes, please, sign me up as a viewer ASAP.

ICYMI – Town of Milton receiving more than $2.1 million from OLG through quarterly payment
The Town of Milton is once again getting a whole bunch of money from OLG. The gaming operation gives our municipality money four times a year because of the casino located in Campbellville. This payment came in the form of just over $2.1 million (not bad!) and a chunk of that money will be used for the Milton Community Fund Program. That means local charities, organizations, and programs will benefit from this funding, which is good!
Daily WTF – Man with notable face tattoo wanted by police
If you’re on the run from the police, you’d want to hide any prominent features. Hair can be a big giveaway, as can be tattoos. For Regan Mckinley in New Zealand, it’s the ink on his face that will make him standout from the crowd. A warrant is out for the man’s arrest after he breached his previous release conditions. Thing is, he has the word ‘EVIL’ tattoo across his face. I don’t mean on his face, or that it’s a small tattoo on his cheek. I mean, Mckinley has the word ‘EVIL’ in big letters tattooed across the middle part of his face, starting from his cheekbones down to his jawline, and across his cheeks, nose and to the other side of his face. Don’t feel like you’re judging a book by the cover here, the man is considered dangerous. Who would have thought?! He’ll likely be found in the coming days.
Daily Did You Know – Here’s where you should (and should not) swim in Halton
It has been a hot summer, and you might be looking for ways to cool down. You can head to the beach, but you might be wondering, “Is this water sanitary? It looks questionable to me!” Halton Region has done their homework and have kept up with regular water checks at nine beaches across the area. Six of the nine beaches were determined to be unsafe for swimming. Here in Milton, Kelso Beach was sampled and found to be safe, as is the new waterpark there. The Region cautions that things can change day-to-day and even hour-to-hour thanks to rainfall and other factors, so always use caution. The rule they have is if you can’t see you feet while standing in waist high water as an adult, don’t go swimming!
Sharks off Brazil coast test positive for cocaine
In 2023, we were blessed with the fever dream of a movie known as ‘Cocaine Bear’. Based on a somewhat real story, a bear came across cocaine in the woods, ingested it, and unlike the real story, went on a murderous rampage. Thing is, it’s not just the bears that are coming across the narcotic, as according to reports this week, sharks off the coast in Brazil are testing positive for cocaine. It’s believed the drug is making its way into the sea through illegal labs that are making it. I remember reading that sharks don’t sleep, and you know what, this explains it.
Oscar Mayer Wienermobile flips onto its side after crash along suburban Chicago highway
Tragedy has struck a Chicago highway as the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile has crashed. The hot dog shaped car was seen on its side. Police say the driver lost control, overcorrected and thus, the vehicle rolled over. No injuries were reported after the crash, but it did cause delays. If you’ve ever been at a baseball game and dropped your hot dog, I’m sure you understand the heartbreak. I’m not sure the five second rule applies to cars, though.
GOOD NEWS – Texas family saves orphaned baby bird by wrapping it in tortilla
A family in Texas came across a baby bird. It was an orphaned Mississippi Kite. The little bird was alone and in danger of not making it. Thinking quick, they grabbed the first they could find to help the bird: a tortilla. Yes, they wrapped this fragile little bird in a warm, fluffy tortilla and brought it inside, naming it Taquito, which is Spanish for ‘Little Taco’, very fitting. They called animal services who eventually took it from there. Taquito the ‘Birdito’ is recovering well… And that’s some good news!

Snoop Dogg to carry Olympic torch ahead of Paris opening ceremony
The Olympic Flame will be lit this Friday as the torch makes its way through the final stretch. This flame has been passed from one torch to another, with people all over France taking part. The final relay will happen on Friday, with the final torchbearer being announced. Strangely enough, the person is not French! The person is rapper Snoop Dogg! At 52-years-old, the D-O-Double G will carry the torch through the streets of Saint-Denis, the northern Paris suburb that is home to France’s Olympic Stadium. It’s not known who he’ll give the torch to who will then light the Olympic Flame, but nonetheless, if you’re watching the Olympic Ceremony on Friday, don’t be surprised when Snoop Dogg is jogging along with the torch in hand. Good for him!
Who is Ladypool? Everyone from Taylor Swift to Blake Lively have been rumoured
This weekend will be the premiere for the third Deadpool movie, Deadpool and Wolverine. There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding the movie as marketing aficionado, Ryan Reynolds, has done a good job building hype for his movie. Thing is, there’s a character in the movie that has people wondering who the actor is. Known as Ladypool, the character is a female take on Deadpool. With a skintight red suit and a blonde ponytail, speculation has run wild. It was originally thought that maybe Taylor Swift was playing the character. At a red carpet event this week, Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, arrived in a similar outfit and now people think SHE might be the character. There’s also people wondering if there will be swerve, and the character is actually played by Reynolds himself. Whoever it is, we’ll know by the weekend.
