What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Retired Oakville man wins $50,000 in lottery
A retired Oakville man by the name of Giuseppe Orlando won $50,000 playing the lottery recently. His plan is to add to his retirement savings, and take his wife on a road trip.
Daily WTF – Man dresses as tiger as Tokyo zoo prepares for the event of an escape
Zookeepers in Tokyo continue to practice their escape drills in very unique ways. Earlier this year, we talked about a zoo in Tokyo dressing up a staff member as a bear and having them run around the property. The idea was to prepare themselves for when a bear escapes without actually having the bear escape (because that would be dangerous). Well, the zoo is back in the news, this time with a staff member dressed as a white tiger! The man was seen on all fours, running around, trying to avoid being caught. Staff didn’t let him get far, putting up net barriers and using simulated tranquillizers. They eventually caught their target with a rope. We’ll see how well a white tiger compares to a grown man if/when the real thing happens.
Quiet quitting is getting louder
How do you feel about your job? According to a recent study, 71% of Canadians want to leave their job in the next year. Recruitment firm Hays says this is the highest percentage they’ve ever seen while conducting this survey. They feel this will only get worse, and managers should prepare for their workforce numbers to dwindle, if they’re not also part of the great resignation themselves. It seems job-hopping has grown more popular over the years. People are less willing to wait out a bad working situation and will move swiftly to potentially greener grass. If you’re fed up with work, you might just be looking for a new job within the next 12 months… Good luck!

No, Michael Cera did not commit a crime
If you have been getting weird ads detailing fake news stories, you’re not alone! Previously, the ads showcased CTV’s Mary Berg, NHL player Sidney Crosby, and others being arrested for some unmentioned federal crime. The latest to be featured is Michael Cera. I’m here to tell you, he wasn’t arrested. At least, not recently, and not for anything major. The ads use fake stories to get people to click on them, either as a scam or a way to hack your devices. If you come across one of these ads, don’t click on it. Report the ad on whichever social media app you’re using, and go about your day. And if you’re Michael Cera, now is as good a time as any to commit some crimes, pal…
NYC plans to install anti-OD ‘life alert’ devices in apartments to connect drug users to 911
This is an interesting story! So, to combat overdoses, New York City plans to install devices in apartments that will connect drug users to 911. These anti-OD life alerts would be time based, and used by someone who is alone. They can set the timer for up to six minutes, and if they don’t get back up to turn it off, 911 would be contacted. The goal is to limit overdoses, particularly by those who use drugs alone. Now, the pilot program is going to be tax-funded, which has people up in arms online. But still, a neat idea to watch from afar. We’ll see how it goes, and hopefully it saves lives!
Gen Xers and boomers are most confused by these emojis
If you are confused by a select group of emojis, it’s most likely a sign of your age! A study out of the University of Ottawa dove into emojis and their connections with certain generations. It found that Gen Xers and boomers especially are confused by very particular emojis. Those include: the “wide eyes” blushing emoji, and, strangely, any emoji showing happiness! With emojis reaching mainstream prominence in 2011 when they were adopted by Apple, it appears as though this somewhat new form of communication is hard to translate the older you get. Certain emotions, thoughts, and contexts are lost on older generations through emojis. So, if your grandmother sends you the eggplant emoji, just know, she means a literal eggplant… And that’s all. No need to worry.
Are you washing your face enough? Here’s what dermatologists have to say
You might be washing your face too much! That’s according to experts. A recent study dove into face washing techniques. It found that many people are following a twice-a-day routine, which is recommended. However, dermatologists say that if you have dry skin, you might better off skipping one of those washes. If you have oily skin, wash away! But, if your skin is dry, they say you’re better off using lotion and creams to add moisture, especially in the morning. They add that you should listen to your body – adapt and adjust – and you’ll find a routine that works for you.
Bruno Mars Allegedly Has $50 Million Gambling Debt With MGM Casino
Bruno Mars is in the headlines, and not for a good reason. It seems the 24k Gold-lifestyle has caught up to the singer, as reports say he is $50 million in debt. He’s been in a residency at a Vegas casino since 2016. He makes a reported $90 million a year through the deal, but his gambling has eaten away at that number. In other words, the casino “owns him” until he pays off that debt. What does that mean? Well, like Elvis way back when, you likely won’t see Bruno Mars perform outside of Las Vegas until he gets a hold of his issues, and he might not have much time off either.
What’s Your Legacy? 1 In 3 People Want To Be Remembered For This Quality
What do you want to be remembered for? A survey of 2000 people found the number one factor that people want for their legacy: Creativity. People want to be remembered for their art, their writing, their music, etc. What’s really sad about that is that 72% of respondents wish they kept up with their creative activities more often. What does that mean? There are a lot of people feeling like they could be forgotten pretty easily. Are you a creative person? Would you like that creativity to be your legacy? If so, pick up that pencil! Play that instrument! Start writing that Pulitzer Prize winning novel! Best time to plant a tree was 20-years ago – the second best time is today!
