Have you stopped seeking out new music?
A study says that our music taste is set in stone by age 24. That means you have all of high school, and the traditional post-secondary years, to develop your taste.
Once you hit your mid-twenties, you start to like what you like, and you’ll be hard pressed to enjoy unfamiliar genres. Then come the thirties, when you start to prefer your personal classics over anything new. The specific number differs depending on the study, but most people in their 30s and older have a hard time enjoying newer music.
That doesn’t mean you hate all new music, but you’re not as open to new tunes as you once were when you were younger.
What about you? Do you still like finding new music? Are you the kind of person who’s constantly seeking our new songs and bands, or are you now stuck in your ways?
Let me know!

Suspected plane piece lands on Philadelphia home’s roof
For some reason, pieces keep falling off of planes. A family in Philadelphia were puzzled when an eight-foot-long piece of metal suddenly appeared on the roof of their home. They had no idea as to how it could have gotten there. It’s currently being investigated, but the running theory is that the giant piece of metal came from a plane. This wouldn’t be the first time! Recently, a family in Chicago had something similar happen to them. Also, there was the plane in the western United States that had a door completely fly off and fall into the woods below. Keep your head up… No, seriously – there might be something falling from the sky any minute now…
United Way Halton & Hamilton is getting ready for 211 Day
211 Day is being held this Sunday! It’s a day to highlight the service: 211. It’s comparable to 911 in that people can call it and the service provides help. Only, instead of emergencies, 211 provides information for government and community-based, nonclinical health and social services. United Way Halton & Hamilton will be running promotions and campaigns this Sunday. They’ll also do it on Monday since 211 Day happens to fall on a weekend day this year.

The provincial government announced that they are looking to establish two-way, all-day GO service in Milton, they just want the feds to join in on the funding of it. No timeline was provided, with or without the federal funding. We’ll let you know when something is set in stone.
Canadians won’t give up their morning coffee, study finds
What would it take for you to give up coffee? Caffeine has often been the drug of choice for many in our country. One of our major pieces of ‘Canadiana’ is a coffee and donut shop created by a former Toronto Maple Leafs player. According to a study, 64% of Canadians polled said they’d never give up the ol’ coffee bean tea. This comes after 59% of people admitted to feeling an afternoon slump. People want coffee to have more nutrients, and are even searching for more protein in other sources. We need to find a healthy coffee. Something that has our daily nutrients and can pick us up in a way that’s safer than energy drinks. Something like Soylent Green… if it weren’t made of people…
Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ Sales Increase By 38,000% Post-Grammys
It seems all it took was a Grammy performance for the average person to learn what listeners of FM 101 Milton already knew… Tracy Chapman rules, and so does her original version of ‘Fast Car’. Over the last year or so, the song has blown up in popularity. Not because of Chapman, but because of country singer Luke Combs. He had covered Chapman’s song in 2023, and it was at the top of the charts. This led to Combs and Chapman performing together at the Grammy’s, and it was a stellar performance. Since Sunday, Chapman has seen the sales for her version of the song SKYROCKET. In 24 hours, the song saw a 38,000% increase in digital sales. It also saw a 241% increase in streaming on Spotify as well. It’s a powerful song, and people are remembering, and in most cases, learning that.
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Concert Film to Stream on Disney Plus
If you missed seeing Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour when it was in New York or Detroit, you had the chance to watch a film of it in theatres. That movie then moved to digital, and people could rent or buy it. If you’ve somehow not seen the tour live or through the movie, and you still want to see it, you’ll have the chance to stream it! Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film will be heading to Disney Plus in March. It’s one of the highest-grossing concert films of all time, and it’s been very well received by Swifties (my wife included). Even if you’ve seen it already and want to watch it again… and again… and again… You can soon do that!
The Super Bowl has some strange bets this Sunday
This Sunday will be the big game, and many people will want to profit from it. Unlike most sports games though, the Super Bowl has way more ‘novelty bets’. You can actual gamble on EVERYTHING regarding the game, and not even JUST THE GAME. You can bet on the number of times Taylor Swift will be shown by the CBS broadcast; you can bet which song Usher performs first during his halftime show, along with the number of songs he performs; you can bet on heads or tails for the coin flip; and, you can bet on the colour of gatorade for the winning team when they dump it on the coach. The list goes on and on and on. Just remember, know your limit and play within it.
UBC student commutes from Calgary — cheaper than paying Vancouver rent
If you thought Milton was an expensive place to live in, you might want to sit down. A student at the University of British Columbia can’t afford to live in Vancouver, and so he commutes. Thing is, it’s not like he commutes from his family home in a nearby town. His family home isn’t even in BC. Tim Chen has done the math, and he found that it’s actually cheaper for him to commute to UBC from his family home in Calgary than it is to live in Vancouver. Twice a week, Chen flies into Vancouver. After his classes, he buses back to the airport and flies home. He pays $1,200 a month in round-trip flights while living with his parents. If he were to live in Vancouver, he’d pay $2100 a month just on rent for a one-bedroom apartment. He’s saving $900 a month MINIMUM by flying to school… And you thought your commute was bad!
Ewan McGregor’s daughter endured watching one of his nude scenes with her high school class
It can be hard going through school with a famous parent. It can be even harder when a teacher uses one of their movies in class. Star Wars’ actor Ewan McGregor once appeared nude in a film known as ‘The Pillow Book’. His daughter Clara, now 28-years-old, says she took a Gender Studies class in her senior year of high school. By chance, the film was used as part of the course material. Now, her teacher did run it past Clara before showing the class, saying this is a movie they show in the class every year, but wanted to make sure she was okay with it. Clara didn’t think anything of it, and so she agreed. Turns out, seeing your dad naked on screen during a high school class is more awkward than she expected. Good news, she wasn’t bullied for the experience. All’s well that ends well.
