Let’s say you received full funding to start a business in Milton, what are you opening?
Whether you won a bunch of money in the lottery or the nicest, most innocent (non-evil) billionaire decided to fund your cause, what are you bringing to town? Okay… Sure, there’s the standard ‘COSTCO’ and ‘BURGER KING’ answers, but what else???
I was reading an article that touched on small businesses and how many of them fail in their first year. It’s wild to see how common it is for them to fail so early, and the big reason being MONEY!
My wife and I always talk about what business we’d open if we had the money. We’ve always liked the idea of a bookstore/coffee shop, because those are always fun. I obviously also like radio and podcasting, so there’s a part of me that thinks we could have a studio in the back as well. I’d want to name it ‘Espresso Self’, but I know it’s for sure taken – it’s definitely not an ORIGINAL name
What about you? UNLIMITED FINANCING – What DREAM business would you open???
What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI: Meet Milton’s first baby of 2024
A nine pound and nine ounce baby (Baby Lee) was Milton’s first of the new year. My wife was ten pounds when she was born, and her dad nicknamed her ‘Tank’, so hopefully Baby Lee gets a fun nickname as well! Read more here…
Daily WTF: Letter lost in mail delivered to DeKalb family 80 years later
Those mailrooms REALLY get log jammed, eh? In 1943, a letter was issued to Louis and Lavena George of DeKalb Illinois. The letter never made it to the family. Cut to present day, a worker at the Dekalb Post Office finds the letter, and they decide to track down SOMEONE related to this family and hand it to them personally. That’s good service! They managed to track down Grace Salazar, a relative who lives in Portland, Oregon, and she shared the piece of mail with Jeanette George – Louis and Lavena George’s daughter. Read more here…
Magical Lights of Milton has donated $100,000 total to the local hospital
I’m a big fan of what David Geall has been doing over the last 14 years. The man holds a fundraising Christmas lights show all through the holiday season in Milton. All he asks for is a donation to the MDHF, and as of this week, Geall has raised $100,000! He once told me how a family came up to him and shared that they had been coming to the Magical Lights of Milton every year since their child was a toddler, and now that kid is off to university. That’s a long time! Great guy, great cause. Read more here…
Daily Did You Know: Milton’s library and hospital team up for new baby program
This is a cool thing happening here in town. New parents will get help from the MPL and MDH to HOPEFULLY establish a love of reading in their children. It starts from when they leave the hospital with their discharge kit, and it continues at the local library! Read more here…
Golden Wedding recap: Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist are married!
I have never once enjoyed the idea of The Bachelor, but you age those contestants by 50 years and suddenly I AM INVESTED. Gerry Turner is a 72-year-old widower, whose kids told him he should try to be the first Golden Bachelor. He married his high school sweetheart, they were together for like 40+ years before she passed away, and he’s been alone ever since. Young, attractive women fighting over a guy they just met? Tired. Older, sweet (at times) women fighting over this nice old man? Wired. 10/10 television, would recommend. Read more here…
Christopher Nolan Says a Peloton Instructor Complained About His Movie While He Was in the Class
I want you to imagine what this would feel like. So, Peloton, if you don’t know, their instructors have a lot of personality. It’s part of the fun. Their job is to entertain you long enough to enjoy working out. One of the instructors started talking about movies, and was complaining about a film they had recently seen. That film… was directed by Christopher Nolan, who was IN THE CLASS. Imagine working out at the gym and some random person starts trash talking you about your job? That’s not fun. BUT, Nolan seems to be a better guy than me. He might’ve even laughed at it. Also, apparently the movie was TENET? Easily his worst. Read more here…
Man says exploding toilet in Dunkin’ left him covered in waste, debris. Now he’s suing.
You’ve heard of sticky situations, this one is a STINKY situation. The story goes, this man in Florida went into a Dunkin’ Donuts store and used the washroom. That’s when the toilet quite literally EXPLODED on him. Everything you can imagine was now on this poor guy. When he exited, apparently the staff said they knew about this broken toilet, so the guy decided to sue the location for negligence. Which like, good for him! But also, only $50,000? If I had to walk or drive home covered in human waste, after likely being checked by emergency services, I’d probably ask for more than that. But that’s just me. Read more here…
Jacob Elordi’s ‘Saltburn’ Bath Water Is Now a Candle
I tried real hard to tiptoe around this story, but here we are. So, Saltburn is becoming this Gen Z sensation movie. There’s a scene where Jacob Elordi’s character has an intimate moment alone in a bathtub. Barry Keoghan’s character then drinks the bathwater. It sounds disgusting, but that leads us to the actual story. You can now buy a candle called ‘Jacob Elordi’s Bathwater’ on Etsy for $37. Keoghan finds it so funny that he reportedly bought ten of them. Yeah… Read more here…
Canadian Trekkie to get her remains beamed up in deep space funeral
Picture a Viking Funeral, but in space. That’s apparently what a space funeral is supposed to be. Gloria Rosalind Knowlan was a massive Star Trek. She passed away in 2011. Now, next week, her remains will be among the ashes of more than 200 other deceased Trekkies, including the creator of the show, being launched into space. The company behind it, Celestis, has been doing this for a while now, and this is the first ever Voyager launch (dubbed the Enterprise flight). Whether they actually launch the remains into space, a la a Viking Funeral into water, I do not know. Definitely less fire, I can guarantee that. Read more here...
Dog eats $4000 in cold, hard cash
A couple in Pennsylvania took $4000 out of their savings account to put towards a new fence. They left the money on their kitchen counter, which their dog mistook for, “here’s a treat for you, little guy.” The dog ate every single bill. GOOD NEWS: The couple got the money back. Just don’t ask about the smell. Read more here…
