Today is the big day!
LCBO stores are opening after announcing the end of their strike thanks to a new tentative agreement.
It was a long two weeks for people, with many stocking up ahead of time or flooding grocery stores to get their drinks.
I wanna know:
Did the LCBO strike affect your life?
Let me know!

ICYMI – Milton Mayor Gord Krantz Elaborates on Opposition to CN Intermodal Hub in Follow-Up Interview
You might recall a couple of weeks ago now that Milton Mayor Gord Krantz issued a spicy email to members of the Milton Chamber of Commerce. It regarded his stance on the CN Intermodal Hub, and the stance (or lack thereof) of the Milton Chamber on the matter. Our very own Drew Behm got ahold of our mighty mayor, and got him to elaborate on his points and add to them. He goes over why the Hub is happening, and how he feels the negatives vastly outweigh the positives of this hub in this particular community.
Daily WTF – City’s tallest tower homeowners object to skyscrapers
Many residents in Milton are opposing the development of tall skyscraper condo buildings, saying it’ll ruin the skyline of the town. Many people say a big reason why they purchased their home in Milton all those years ago was the view of the Escarpment from their backyard. But it seems this kind of thinking is not reserved only for Miltonians, including people living way up in the sky. Homeowners in Manchester, England’s tallest building are against the construction of four new towers next door. A 200m skyscraper condo building opened in 2018, and the developers are continuing their work across the street, proposing 47 and 51-storey tall buildings next door. People who moved into the original condo buildings are against this proposal, saying the traffic is bad enough; they’ll lose their privacy; and that a bunch of new residents could bring an influx of crime. Again, these people live in a massive condo building right next door to this proposed buildings. Politicians aren’t having it, saying it’ll provide 36,000 homes for people in a city that needs housing. It’s a story we can all relate with: When someone benefits from something, they’re happy with it – but if someone else benefits from the same thing, they’re not happy with it. I think that might be hypocrisy? But, who am I to say…
Daily Did You Know – Town of Milton receiving more than $2.1 million from OLG through quarterly payment
The Town of Milton is once again getting a whole bunch of money from OLG. The gaming operation gives our municipality money four times a year because of the casino located in Campbellville. This payment came in the form of just over $2.1 million (not bad!) and a chunk of that money will be used for the Milton Community Fund Program. That means local charities, organizations, and programs will benefit from this funding, which is good!
Ontario’s fall forecast has arrived and here’s what to expect
If you’ve been outside at all in the past few weeks, you’ll know that summer 2024 has either been really HOT or really WET. It’s been a sweaty and moist summer here in Milton, but will that carry over to the next season? The Farmer’s Almanac Extended Fall Forecast has been released, and these magical forecasting farmers have their prediction for Ontario. Come Thanksgiving time, they say Ontario residents can expect “fair and dry” conditions. It seems other provinces are not in the same boat as us, as the Prairies and BC should expect wet conditions. Autumn isn’t for another two months, so enjoy the heat, let your garden enjoy the rain, and we’ll see if we get that perfect dry fall we all seem to enjoy. Pumpkin Spice latte and a warm shacket? Yes, please.

GOOD NEWS – Woman reunited with son after half a century
Not every mother is ready to be a mom, and that was the case for Paula Beer. The UK woman was pregnant at 17. She hid the news from her parents and moved to her Aunts home. Seven months into the pregnancy, she decided she wasn’t ready, and was going to put her soon-to-be son up for adoption. She gave birth in February 1967 and spent three days with her baby before he was taken away. 57 years later, the two are reunited. They reconnected through a local television program and the first time they met in person, they embraced. He had a wonderful life, and she was so happy to hear that, because THAT is some good news.
Aubrey Plaza tears ACL playing basketball during WNBA All-Star weekend
Aubrey Plaza has reportedly suffered an ACL tear while playing basketball during the WNBA All-Star weekend… You read that correctly: ACTOR Aubrey Plaza suffered a major knee injury playing basketball around professional basketball players. She was playing a game of ‘knockout’ at the Phoenix Mercury’s training facility over the weekend. One thing led to another, and she was seen courtside all weekend with crutches and a knee wrapped in ice. Gotta respect the vigor of trying to play a mini basketball game with professionals, but Aubrey earned a valuable lesson: 40 is a dangerous milestone for non-athletes… Be careful.
Tortoise causes train delays after slowly climbing on to tracks
How was your commute this morning? Were there any delays? Probably construction, right? Well, that’s probably better than what caused delays in the UK recently. A lost tortoise somehow managed to find its way onto train tracks, causing a shutdown of the rail line. Solomon the tortoise was uninjured, and staff picked the big guy up and carried him away. He was kept in an office before being transferred to a nearby vet. The owner eventually got him back, and has me asking the question: How long do you keep the backdoor open to allow a TORTOISE to escape the house?
Pearl Jam Fan Travels 7,000 Miles, Bribes Eddie Vedder with Wine to Play “Yellow Ledbetter” on Stage
A Chilean man has given every music superfan the blueprint to get on stage with their favourite artist. Carlos flew 7000 miles from his home country of Chile to see his favourite band, Pearl Jam, perform live in Barcelona, Spain. He arrived prepared with an offering of Chilean wine and a hand-made sign reading, “Pls let me play Y.Ledbetter on guitar. P.S. hope u liked the Chilean wine.” Turns out, that worked! Singer Eddie Vedder said “heck yeah, get on up here,” and took the wine. So, if you’re hoping to one day be on stage with, let’s say, Bruce Springsteen… Maybe have a bottle of ‘Josh’ on-hand…
