Each time someone drops off items at any of the MPL locations, they get the chance to win a number of prizes! The campaign officially launched on Saturday with an event at the Main Library location.
Daily WTF – World’s ugliest dog? Meet Wild Thang, the 8-year-old Pekingese who took the 2024 crown
Every dog is cute in some way or another, but that doesn’t stop the organizers of The World’s Ugliest Dog contest. It’s an annual event, with the winner receiving $5000 and will be featured on cans of MUG root beer moving forward. This year’s winner is an eight-year-old Pekingese named Wild Thang. The little guy is a ball of fur and a survivor! When he was little, Wild Thang contracted Distemper from a foster pup. He managed to live, but has some lasting effects, like damaged teeth and a right leg that paddles 24/7. Despite that, he’s happy… UGLY and happy, and that’s earned him the title of World’s Ugliest Dog for 2024. Wild Thang, you make my heart sang.

Kevin Costner confirms he won’t return to ‘Yellowstone’
One of the biggest shows on television is officially losing its leading man. Kevin Costner has confirmed the rumours: he will not be returning to Yellowstone. He shared the news on social media, saying, “I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5b or into the future.” This came after he’s spent 18 months filming a new television series called ‘Horizon’. There’s belief his character on Yellowstone will be killed off-screen, due to Costner saying he’ll never return to the show again. So, if you’re a diehard Yellowstone fan like my dad, get ready for a different show!
GOOD NEWS – Woman finds priceless 2,000-year-old Mayan vase in Maryland thrift store
My wife and I were just at a thrift store the other day, donating what we had and looking to see what they had. A lot of great stuff can be found at a thrift store, including ancient artifacts. A Maryland woman discovered a priceless 2000-year-old Mayan vase in a local thrift store. She bought it for $4 US. When she went to a Mayan exhibit at a museum, she released the pottery there looked a lot like the one she had at home. That’s when she put two and two together, and has since donated the vase for free to the museum. It will now be analyzed and looked after by professionals… And that’s some good news!
‘It’s been a tough week,’ Justin Timberlake says to crowd in first concert following his DWI arrest
The show must go on for Justin Timberlake! After being arrested last week in New York for a DWI, the pop singer continued his world tour. He had shows in Chicago over the weekend, in which he addressed the elephant in the room. His exact words were, “It’s been a tough week, but you’re here and I’m here, and nothing can change this moment right now. I know sometimes I’m hard to love but you keep on loving me and I love you right back.” If I’m being honest here: not really the words I would have chosen. The singer remains adamant that he had one drink after his show, but he also reportedly refused the breathalyzer, so it is what it is. He’s back in New York this weekend for shows at MSG. His court date remains scheduled for next month.
William Shatner slams open-net salmon farming in video from Ryan Reynolds’ company
William Shatner is tired of Canadians being polite all the time. The legendary Star Trek actor, and Canadian, was part of a video done by Ryan Reynolds’ marketing company and wildlife organization Pacific Wild. The video was directed towards open-net salmon farming. He went on a profanity-laden speech about how Canadians need to stand up and not take the federal government’s decision to extend the licenses for this fishing practice. Here’s the video. The people who run the salmon farm have spoken out about the video, calling it irresponsible and demand an apology from Shatner, Reynolds, and Pacific Wild. It’s been a few days, and no apology, so it’s likely they won’t get one. They might even get more profanity, if anything.
Late “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek to be honored with new Forever stamp
This longtime gameshow will be honored with a US Forever stamp… Who is Alex Trebek? After he passed away in 2020 from pancreatic cancer, many people have missed the television mainstay. Ken Jennings has since replaced him on Jeopardy, but even Jennings will admit, he’s no Trebek. He announced on Friday’s episode that the US Postal Service is looking to honour the Canadian with a new stamp. It’ll display the video monitors seen on “Jeopardy!” alongside a photo of Trebek. They’re available online now!
