There might be a new Pickleball!
Pickleball has been all the rage the last few years, and has seen immense growth. There’s even a professional league with teams owned by professional athletes like Drew Brees and Tom Brady.
However, coming up the rear is Pepper Pong! It’s reportedly booming right now. According to reports, it’s helping people stave off isolation and spend time with friends in their older age.
It’s table tennis played on any table, with a special plastic net and three special weighted balls.
Would you give it a shot? Have you even played pickleball yet? I’ve heard that’s a lot of fun, so I might need give both a go soon.
Let me know!

Daily WTF – A Photographer Wins a Top Prize in an A.I. Competition for His Non-A.I. Image
It appears as though the robots are still a step behind when it comes to true art. With the latest boom in artificial intelligence, a lot of artists and art enthusiasts were worried this be the end of conventional art. These machines were pumping out incredible photos and designs in seconds, sourcing material from millions, if not billions, of online art. A contest was held recently for art created by AI. However, the winner did not use AI to create his image. Miles Astray won Bronze along with the People’s Choice Award, but was immediately disqualified when it was discovered his picture of a seemingly headless flamingo was not AI. He says he entered the contest after many artists submitted AI images in contests looking for real photos. Astray thought it’d be fun to try and play their own game, and he won! So, take that robots. And by take that, I mean, I’ve always supported you. All hail our robot overlords.

You’re invited to a Laurier Milton open house
We’re about to have a university in Milton. With Conestoga College opening its first campus already, Wilfrid Laurier University is rushing to get their foot in the Milton door. They’ll have a small campus available in town this fall, and to kick things off, they’re holding another open house for prospective students this week. It’s available tomorrow night at the campus on Industrial Drive. Eventually, the goal is for both Conestoga and Laurier to have campuses on Tremaine Road as part of the Milton Education Village. There’s no real opening date for that campus at the moment.
Three local parks will go under construction and you can help with the designs
Multiple parks in Milton will be going under construction this year, and the Town of Milton wants to hear your thoughts on certain designs. Until Wednesday, residents can share their feedback on the work that will be done at Melanie Park on Woodward Avenue, Watson Park on Clark Boulevard, and Bowes Neighbourhood Park on Trudeau Drive. Construction on these parks will begin this year and run until next year.
It’s about to get real hot this week
Hopefully you have your air conditioning turned on, because you’ll definitely need it this week. Environment Canada is warning of an incoming heatwave. Daily highs will reach over 30°C and the humidex will be over 40°C. It’s a good week to stay inside! If you have a dog, walk them either early in the morning or late in the evening. GOOD NEWS – Ottawa Food Bank surpasses one-day donation record
It was a good weekend for the Ottawa Food Bank. Six different schools in the area teamed up to collect food donations for the organization, and in doing so, broke a record! On Saturday, they collected nearly 95 tonnes worth of food. That surpasses the previous record set in 2013 by 32 tonnes! All that food will go off and help families in need… And that’s some good news!
Canadian city offers to change its name to Taylor Swift if she visits
A city in Canada is swinging for the fences while trying to get a visit from Taylor Swift. The world’s biggest singer is coming to Canada this year as she finishes off her Eras Tour, the biggest music tour of all time. Swift Current, Saskatchewan was left off the touring list, to no fault of their own. But, as the singer will likely fly over the prairies, the city is hoping she’ll still make a visit. To sway her into doing so, they’ve offered to change their name to Taylor Swift. Residents of the name change backed the idea, and so it’s official. Should Taylor Swift make a visit, they city will become Taylor Swift, Saskatchewan for a temporary period. She has yet to confirm her appearance, but never say never!
Singer Cody Simpson fails to make Australian Olympic swimming team
A former popstar has seen his Olympic bid come to an end. A few years ago, Cody Simpson announced that it was his goal to compete in swimming for his home country of Australia at the 2024 Paris Summer Games. The 27-year-old ‘Australian Bieber’ made it to the final cuts last week, where he was not chosen as one of the 41 swimmers who will compete this summer. He called the moment bittersweet, and says that’s just how it goes sometimes. Seems like he’s stepping out of the pool and back into the studio, so we could get more music from him in the coming years. The Olympics start next month.
