What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Get to know Arabella Vida, Independent candidate for Milton by-election
In less than a week, Milton will have a new MPP. Leading up to the election, we’re interviewing all willing candidates and airing them daily on a first come, first served basis. Election day is May 2nd.
Daily WTF – This active volcano in Antarctica is spewing real gold dust
To quote a famous Mike Myers character, “I love GOOOOOOOOOLD!” A volcano in Antarctica has gone viral due to its eruption. Mount Erebus, a consistently active volcano, spits out gold. Gold dust rains from the sky, with an estimated value of $6000 falling every day. The dust travels far and away, with researchers finding it as far as 621 miles from the volcano. Thing is, no one has found a way to profit off this erupting goldmine, as it’s incredibly remote. A research station exists in the area and that’s about it. If you’re like Goldmember though, and you just love gold, there’s a money making opportunity out there waiting for you.
Daily Did You Know – Get to know Galen Naidoo Harris, Ontario Liberal Party candidate for Milton’s by-election
Once again, we’re continuing our interviews with Milton by-election candidates. These are on a first come, first served basis and are released daily. Election day is set for next Thursday.
You can be a ‘Good Neighbour’ with the return of annual Milton clean-up day
Reminder – Tomorrow is Good Neighbours Day in Milton. A group is gathering at Town Hall at 8am to head out and clean up the community. Dozens of people are expected to go around and clean up streets and parks. All are invited. It is looking like it might rain, so make sure you’re prepared for that.
Toronto is getting ready for incoming musical based on Tim Hortons
Tim Hortons is reportedly getting a musical! Yeah, I know, I find that strange as well. It’s being created by Michael Rubinoff, who was the man behind ‘Come Far Away’, and the report is ‘The Last Timbit’ will be loosely based on a real life blizzard that struck Sarnia in 2010, forcing dozens of strangers to huddle together inside a Timmies for 24 hours. It’ll premiere this June in Toronto at the Elgin Theatre – we’ll see how it goes!
GOOD NEWS – An animal shelter in Pennsylvania is empty for the first time in nearly 50 years: ‘It is a true miracle’
It’s time to give some good news! For the first time in 47 years, the Adams County SPCA in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is sitting empty! They managed to have all 598 animals in their care adopted throughout the year. They even managed to reunite 125 strays with their owners. They’re calling it a miracle, and say it happened at the best time. With inflation hitting everyone, they found their costs were constantly going up with no sign of slowing down. Thankfully, all of their cats, dogs, birds and frogs were able to find their forever homes.
Honda to invest $15B to build 4 new EV plants in Ontario
Alliston, Ontario is getting set to become the electric vehicle home of Canada! Honda has agreed to build a $15 billion electric vehicle factory in the town, creating more than 1000 jobs as they’ll produce roughly 240,000 vehicles a year. It’s a pretty big deal! Electric vehicles will continue to be a focus for the federal government as they work to tackle emissions. This Alliston factory will be ready to roll by 2028. Do you own an electric vehicle? Would you buy one? Let me know!
There’s no need to shower every day – here’s why
Your morning routine might have consisted of you getting up, making coffee, hopping in the shower, and getting ready for work. Most people shower on a daily basis because for a long time, that’s been the norm. However, experts are calling daily showers “performative hygiene.” They said that while washing our hands regularly can prevent the spread of germs and diseases, bathing on a daily basis is unnecessary, adding that it provides no inherent physical health benefit. They recommend that, unless you exercise, you can get by with a few times a week. Some will even shower once a week in the dead of winter. How often do you bathe? Once a day? Every other day? Once a week? Let me know!
Drake removes ‘Taylor Made’ after Tupac’s estate threatens to sue over AI voice imitation
Canadian superstar Drake got into some hot water with the Tupac Shakur estate. He released a new song recently, called ‘Taylor Made’, and it reportedly used blatant Artificial Intelligence recreations of Tupac’s voice. This led to Tupac’s estate threatening to sue Drake over the unlicensed use of his likeness. Drake took the song down, as it can’t be found online anymore. Man, big blow to the ‘Tupac is still alive’ crowd. They almost got the new music they’ve been waiting for after all these years. Tough day.
