The Milton by-election is just over a week away.
You might be looking to get to know the candidates better before voting day.
FM 101 Milton reached out to all nine candidates from the seven listed political parties to learn more about each person. We’ll release the interviews daily on a first come, first served basis.
We spoke with Edie Strachan, NDP candidate for Milton. Here’s our interview:
INT – Give me an elevator pitch on your platform/campaign.
INT – The next one I have here is regarding transit. It’s been an ongoing topic of conversation for people in Milton, particularly the all-day, two-way GO service. Where do you stand on transit as a whole here in Milton?
INT – I started with this radio station in 2018, so my entire time reporting locally has been with Parm Gill as the MPP. I’ve interviewed a bunch the last six years, and a big focus for him always appeared to be education and bringing schools to Milton. Some people say he didn’t bring enough, so there’s still a need it seems in the community. What is your plan for education here in Milton, what with it being such a heavy topic these last few years?
INT – Many local groups are looking to fight back against environmental issues here in Milton. You have the CN Intermodal Hub, which is more of a federal issue but Parm Gill was asked constantly to speak up about it, and you also have the Campbellville Quarry. Do you plan on addressing these concerns and helping these residents with their cause?
INT – The provincial government has issued a growth mandate for Milton and the rest of Halton, which is forcing the communities to reach a certain population number by 2051. People have their opinions on development; positive, negative, everything in-between – where do you stand?
INT – I always ask at the end of interviews if there’s anything else the person wants to add, just in case I’ve missed anything. Would you like to add anything before I let you go?

Again, these interviews will be released daily as a first come, first served basis ahead of election day on Thursday, May 2nd. If we do not publish an interview with a candidate ahead of that date, it’s because they chose not to accept our invitation. All interviewed candidates will be asked the same questions and provided with the same opportunity to share their opinions.
