We’re a week out from the Easter long weekend, so I’ll ask the question:
Where do you stand on peeps?
Do you like the little marshmallow birds, or do you get sick at the sight of them?
My best friend and I in high school once tried to see how many peeps we could fit in our mouths at one time. This is what happens when you get a part-time job that pays actual money at 15. I believe I got to 12? Honestly, I feel like I blacked out. I know for a fact I threw up that day. So, now I’m pretty anti-peep.
What about you?
Let me know!

ICYMI – Milton Legion honouring local veterans with new banner program
The Milton Legion is hoping to honour veterans with a new banner program! Residents can submit applications on behalf of friends or family members who have served in the military. The Legion will put their legacy on a banner that will be displayed around town. You can expect these banners to go up in October, and remain up until the end of November. They will then return again in 2025.
Daily WTF – VTSU Lyndon offers Weird Al class
While an ivy league school like Harvard offers a class on the great Taylor Swift, what can students at Vermont State University expect? VTSU Lyndon Music and Performing Arts Professor Brian Warwick has launched a class on Weird Al Yankovic. The class will dive into the comedy and skill that goes into writing parody songs, with Warwick saying there’s more than what first meets the ear when it comes to Weird Al. The class starts this fall, and it’s available to non-students as well. Sign me up!
Daily Did You Know – Culture Days returning to Milton for another year
With all of spring and summer still to go, Ontario Culture Days has announced that Milton, Oakville and Burlington will be among the communities taking part in the annual festival this fall. It’s a great way to showcase local talent. The several week long festival will begin September 20th. It usually takes place at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton, with recent years even spreading throughout the streets of Milton.
Is Costco’s $1.50 hot dog deal in jeopardy now that the top exec who defended the price has left?
One of the greatest things about shopping at Costco has been the hot dog. For decades, the bulk store has sold its famous hot dog and pop deal for just $1.50. Thing is: that price is finally in jeopardy. The man who has been adamant that it will never change is retiring. CFO Richard Galanti says customers shouldn’t worry for the near future, as the deal is such a part of the Costco brand that it likely won’t change overnight… But it definitely might change eventually. So, if you haven’t treated yourself to a dog and soda in a while, head to Costco.
Days after Kate Middleton photo blunder Britain’s Royal Family searches for new communications assistant
It seems the Royal Family is getting sick of the press pestering about Kate Middleton’s whereabouts, and so to combat this, they’re hiring a new communications assistant. The job posting says the job pays just over $30,000 a year, but you get a free lunch! You’d work directly inside Buckingham Palace, and your job would be to handle the press and work on social media posts. Likely doing a better job at Photoshop than Princess Kate allegedly does. What’s insane about this is that they would just avoid all of this if they were HONEST about what’s happening with Kate… I feel like that’s an easy fix.
Michael Keaton breaks free in first Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer
The first trailer for Beetlejuice 2 has finally been released. This has been a long time in the making – one, because the first movie came out in 1988, but also, two, because the filming of this sequel was interrupted by last year’s actors’ strike. Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O’Hara return from the original. Jenna Ortega is the new addition. No sign of Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, but they might have surprise appearances via CGI since they’re ghosts who can’t age in the first movie. It’s kind of funny seeing Beetlejuice get the modern EPIC blockbuster trailer treatment, but I’m pumped to see the movie regardless. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice comes out September 6th.
Local father of six wins the lottery
If there was ever anyone who needed to win the lottery, it was probably a construction worker with six kids. Perry Gale works hard at his job, he then has to work hard at home, and now, he gets a big lucky payoff. He won $100,000 playing OLG’s Instant Crossword Tripler recently. He says he’ll use the money to help buy a new home. Good for him!
Professional “baby namer” shares guilty pleasure names
It’s hard to believe, but some people are paid by others to help name children. SJ Strum is one of those people, and she recently went viral for sharing a list of names that she loves, but knows that parents wouldn’t ever give their babies. These “daring names” are Honey and Calliope for girls, and Wilder and Atlas for boys. She also loves Ziggy, Rex, Cosmo, Peregrine, Chase, and Ernest. What do you think about these names? Are they too “daring” for you, or would you consider these names? Do you have any “guilty pleasure” baby names? Let me know!
