The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is reporting the sighting of a black bear just north of Milton.
The HRPS says the sighting happened at roughly 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 5th. Officers responded to the report of a small black bear in a wooded area south of Regional Road 25 and Number 32 Side Road – north of Acton. The black bear was reportedly not acting in an aggressive manner and was last seen wandering into the bush south of Davidson Drive.

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has been contacted and is aware of the black bear sighting.
Although rare, it is not uncommon to have bear sightings in rural wooded areas.
If you spot a bear do not approach it, remain calm, and don’t panic. Bears who encounter people are normally stressed and will likely flee. If you see a bear, keep your pets inside. If a black bear poses an immediate threat call 911 and police will respond.

You can also call the Ministry directly at 1-866-514-2327. The MNR advises that black bears are entering the season of hibernation and anticipate this bear will be doing so shortly.
