(Friday For Future Milton’s protest in December)
A global climate strike is being held today (Friday, March 19th).
Fridays For Future organized the strike to demand climate justice.
“The science is crystal clear — climate change is exacerbating natural disasters by making these events stronger, more intense, more frequent, and therefore more destructive,” says João Duccini, a climate activist from Brazil. “The climate crisis is not a far-off catastrophe. Heat waves, droughts, floods, hurricanes, landslides, deforestation, fires, loss of housing and spread of diseases — this is what the most affected people and areas are dealing with more and more frequency today. Our lives depend on immediate action.”
Locally, the Milton group will be holding a moment of silence. Students will also be changing their profile pictures on social media to help bring awareness to the campaign.
“Here’s what YOU can do to participate from home or in school,” the group says on Instagram. “We will be holding a moment of silence and changing our profile pictures during class to mourn the failure of our authorities and the failure of their actions toward the climate crisis. Reach out to your friends, family and teachers and get them involved as well!”
