(Basketball court on Leger Way in Milton, July 2020)
With the jump in warm weather lately, spring cleaning might start a little early.
As the snow melts, garbage has been found on the ground across town.
The Town Councillor for Milton’s Ward 4, Sameera Ali, wants residents to clean up after themselves.
Seeing a lot of this during my daily walks. Of course I call staff to take care of it but this is not OK!
You can't dump your household garbage on sidewalks, in parks, on construction sites, your neighbour's lawn & storm water ponds.
Please keep our beautiful community clean! pic.twitter.com/5eUnoZRvgD

She notes that this seems to happen every spring. Hopefully, residents can continue to clean up after themselves, recycle more, and litter less.
A shockingly high portion of the garbage that Ali is seeing on local streets is plastic straws. She hopes that people continue to move away from using plastic straws as they are hazardous to the environment and wildlife.
Councillor Ali is also a member of the local environmental group Sustainable Milton. They continue to hold local events, like community garbage pick-ups, to help keep Milton clean. Their calendar says they are holding an event for Global Recycling Day (Thursday, March 18th). The webinar is being held on Zoom at 7:00 p.m. to raise awareness of recycling. You can get tickets for the event on EventBrite.
