Rob Burton has reportedly resigned from his position as the Chief of the Halton Police Board.
The move comes after Halton’s Police Chief, Steve Tanner, visited Florida in December with the approval of Burton. The trip to Florida came at a time when many high ranking officials in the country were urging residents to stay home for the holidays. Tanner was also unable to attend the ceremony for Detective Constable Michael Tidball, who passed away suddenly on-duty last week.
The decision to step down echoes the move made by former Ontario Finance Minister Rod Phillips after it was discovered that he was vacationing in St. Barts in the Caribbean.
Burton is also the Mayor of the Town of Oakville. There is no word on his status in that position.
It’s reported that the Halton Police Board will be making a decision on Chief Tanner’s status at its next public meeting on January 28th.
