Halton Regional Police’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit participated in a initiative with 26 other police services in Ontario in November, leading to multiple arrests throughout Halton.
The focus of the initiative was to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet.
Seven men throughout Halton were charged, including 42-year-old William Mathers of Milton.
Mathers has been charged with luring, invitation to sexual touching, and making sexually explicit material available to a child.
As part of the investigation, the OPP say they laid charges against 122 people, and were able to identify and rescue 55 victims, with one child as young as three years old.
Halton police are reminding parents to be vigilant when monitoring their child’s online activities and to discuss internet safety strategies with them.
Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact Halton police or call Crime Stoppers.
