A Milton man has been arrested following a dangerous high speed pursuit early Saturday morning.
Just before 9:00 a.m., Halton police responded to reports of an impaired driver near Trafalgar Road and the 407.
Witnesses had reported a car driving erratically and smashing through a street sign.
Police located the vehicle and a high speed pursuit followed, despite the suspect’s vehicle completely missing a front tire.
With speeds reaching up to 170 kilometres per hour, the condition of the fleeing vehicle and the fact officers could identify the driver, they terminated the pursuit.
The vehicle was later found abandoned in Mississauga.
Shortly after, the owner of the vehicle reported it stolen.
When officers involved in the original pursuit arrived at the owners location, they identified the owner as the suspect and arrested him without incident.
A 23-year-old Milton man was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.
He was released on a promise to appear and an undertaking.
