Chong is our Pet of the Week!
The six-month-old energetic boxer is currently being looked after by Milton’s Fur-Ever Able Rescue. The “good boy” recently had surgery to fix a cleft palate. Founder Ashley Andrews says he’s doing great!
She says there can be issues for puppies with cleft palates because they aren’t able to get the milk from their mother. The puppies end up starving to death because of the issue. Andrews was able to get the help that Chong needed and he’s been fine since.
Fair warning, Chong is an energetic boxer. He’s only six-months old, so he’s in that awkward teenager phase (small body with big paws) that dogs get into. He can get clumsy at times, thinks he’s a bit of a lapdog despite his size, and has lots of energy. That said, Andrews thinks he’s perfect for a young, active family.
The organization focuses on dogs in tough situations and more specifically, dogs dealing with disabilities. They mostly take on dogs and puppies with cleft palate issues. Andrews will raise them and look after their surgeries. When they’re ready, the dogs will then be put up for adoption. She describes the dogs they take in as ones that are likely up for euthanasia otherwise.
Chong is available for adoption. If you’re interested, you can check the Fur-Ever Able adoption page, which also includes Josie, Zeus, and Oreo! The page also has a detailed outline on their adoption process.
Looking to foster? Myla could use your help.
Pet of the Week will return next week! If you are a rescue or animal shelter and would like to be featured, reach out at Cameron.Wilkinson@LocalRadio.ca. We’re hoping to help connect your pets in need (dogs, cats, rabbits, lizards, fish, birds, etc.) with their future forever homes.
