The decision to expand the Milton Public Library (MPL) Main location at 1010 Main Street East has been accelerated by five years.
Instead of taking place in 2027, the expansion process will now begin this year. The planning and design phase of the expansion has begun with a view to starting construction in 2023. It is anticipated that the expansion will open to the public in late 2024.
“I am thrilled that Town of Milton Council have unanimously supported our request to move ahead with the expansion to the Main Library, five years earlier than planned,”says Mark Williams, Chief Librarian and CEO. “In doing so, Council members recognised the importance of Milton Public Library to Miltonians, as we maintain the highest active cardholder rate of any public library in Canada, for the third successive year. Through the increased size of the Main library, by overhauling the layout and design, and in bringing to Milton a slew of new services, we look forward to ensuring that the new Main library helps us to build on our successes, whilst we continue to inspire.”
The design will follow the same approach as the MPL’s newest branch, Sherwood, which is focussed on service innovation, in order to provide the highest levels of customer satisfaction. At the expanded Main library, patrons will have access to a wider range of services, many of which will be available at MPL for the first time.
More information will be shared as the project ramps up.
