NEW TECUMSETH, ON – The Town of New Tecumseth adopted its 2022 Budgets at its December 13th Council meeting.
The approved 2022 Budget reflects a net general levy of $39.2M resulting in a 1.32% levy increase. The Town’s Capital Levy dedicated to asset replacement increased the levy by an additional 0.5%.
Overall, the combined 2022 approved levy reflects a 1.82% increase, which translates to approximately $43 per year for a home valued $452,931. The average New Tecumseth residential property tax bill, including County and education components, is estimated at $4,368.
Key Operating highlights include:
- Enhanced Community Improvement Plan (CIP) funding to support economic vitality
- Increased investment in asset replacement reserves
- Pressures on licenses and permit revenue due to slowdown in development
- Reduction in administration and service areas costs
- Enhanced transit program for Tottenham
- Increase in Gravel Roads Program
The 2022 approved budget will also provide for an additional onetime contribution to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Project in the amount of $250K, this is in addition to the $500K committed to the project in 2020.
The Town budget includes $36M in capital consisting of 62 projects, funded from a variety of sources such as reserves $5.1M, development charges $13.9M, debentures $10.8M, grants $5.1M and tax $0.9M. Significant 2022 capital works include:
• Dayfoot Street reconstruction $9.4M
• 7th Line reconstruction $5.9M
• 12 Line Bridge $4.3M
• Hillcrest Well improvements $2.1M
• Beattie Bridge utility relocations $1.6M
• Fire Station #3 Upgrades $1.4M
• McKelvey Pump upgrades $1.4M
• Ground Well optimizations $1.3M
There are also several park and recreation upgrades included in this 2022 budget:
• Belterra Park including off leash dog park $840K
• Riverdale Park additional work $177K
• Riverdale Park Splash Pad shade structure $93K
• Volleyball Court – Beeton $5K
• Hillcrest off leash dog park $125K
• Beeton Recreation Centre reserve Fund $350K
• Pierce Park basketball nets $23K
• Accessibility upgrades – new additional funds $15K
The Water and Wastewater budget approval results in a 6% increase to water and wastewater rates effective April 1, 2022. The impact of the proposed rate change for an average residential home using 200 cubic meters of water per year approximately $53. The Town continues to provide one of the lowest water and wastewater rates in Simcoe County.
