The severe rain in British Columbia and on the East Coast is a good reminder for us to be prepared for emergency situations
Colleen Simpson is the Manager of 911 and Emergency Planning for Simcoe County.
She says every household should have an emergency kit, ready to go at a moments notice.
Simpson says a basic emergency kit should contain water, non perishable, pet food, first aid kit, wind-up flashlight and radio and a list of emergency contact numbers.
You should also carry a kit in your vehicle, that contains a blanket, first aid kit, water and dried food and a spare tire, jack and tire iron.
During the winter months, you might want to add, a small shovel and some type of traction agent.
