As of Wednesday (dec 1), the Omicron COVID-19 variant has been identified in 7 people across the country, no cases have been found in Simcoe Muskoka but the number of positive COVID cases still continues to rise.
Health units is some Ontario regions have started imposing restrictions and tighter capacity limits on facilities and business to help prevent the spread of the virus.
Dr. Charles Gardner is Chief Medical Officer of Health with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit
He says we’re not at that point, but the says it still could happen.
Dr. Gardner says he is issuing an open letter to residents in the coming week asking the public to closely abide by the health and safety protocols to help prevent any type of future restrictions.
More importantly, he says to get vaccinated.
