A partnership between New Tecumseth Fire Rescue, Enbridge Gas and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is working toward reducing carbon monoxide deaths through detection with a new campaign called Project Zero.
Deputy Fire Chief Simon Worley says a number of homes in New Tecumseth will receive one of the 234 combination smoke/CO alarms they are giving away to those who might not have one hardwired into their home, due to the age of the structure.
He says have responded to a high number of calls for those alarms going off.
Deputy Fire Chief Worley says some of the other causes of a carbon monoxide alarm sounding can be an improperly maintained furnace or fireplace or even a car running in the driveway with an open window nearby.
New Tec Fire Rescue will be out and about dropping them off new CO detectors over the next couple of weeks.
