Members of the Rotary Club of Alliston have raised and donated money to a hospital in Beirut that suffered major damage in an explosion just over a year ago.
On August 4 2020, a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored in a warehouse in the Lebanese capital exploded, left 218 people dead, 7000 injured, an estimated 300,000 people homeless and caused $15-billion in damage.
Dave Green is a member of the Alliston Rotary Club.
Green says the Alliston Club raised $1000, in total Rotary Clubs in Canada donated $60,000 and the Rotary Foundation matched the donations.
The money is being used to assist with the rebuilding of the hospital and the purchase of new medical equipment.
