This is Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week (nov1-7).
New Tecumseth Fire Prevention Officer A. J. Lunn says most homes in Ontario are required to have a carbon monoxide detector.
CO, or Carbon Monoxide, is known as the silent killer as it has not odor or taste and can cause symptoms similar to the flu.
Lunn says if you suspect a CO leak in your house, go outside and call 9-1-1.
Carbon monoxide detectors should be replaced every 7 to 10 years.
