November is Women Abuse Prevention Month.
Halton Women’s Place is raising awareness and asking people to wear purple. The manager of development for the shelter, Carm Bozzo, talks about the importance of this month.
It’s always important for boys and men to understand the role they play in helping end violence against women, adds Bozzo. The shelter holds an annual fundraiser and awareness campaign called Hope in High Heels. The event has men and boys strutting the town in pink high heels to raise money for Halton Women’s Place. She says that women do a great job in building awareness and being the strong pillars that they are for the shelter, but it’s important to have males involved in the conversation so that they can stand up when they hear or see anything that isn’t right.
A big part of this month is a 50/50 raffle for residents to take part in.
You can purchase your tickets for the raffle here.
The shelter is also expected to announce a bunch of events that will happen later this month. You can always stay in touch with what’s happening by checking their news and events page on their website.
If you are in need of help from the shelter, a crisis line is available here. It also includes a list of tips and options, as well as a downloadable brochure.
To take something from the Halton Regional Police Service:
“Every person has the right to feel safe in our community.”
