We’re going to have to wait a little longer before Milton’s Town Council makes a decision on banning election signs on public property.
Milton’s Town Council met on Monday, October 4th. One of the items included the decision on banning the signs. Many questions were raised during the meeting, including some asking about the legalities surrounding making the decision. It was reasoned that nearby municipalities like Burlington, Mississauga, and Brampton have already done this, and that the Halton Region had already banned election signs on Regional roads.
It was then decided that more work needed to be done by Town Staff before Council could make a decision. In a 7-2 vote, Council decided to send the motion back to Staff to make amendments before they return next month for another attempt.
When speaking with Milton MP Adam van Koeverden last month following his federal election, he spoke unprompted on the impending decision, saying that he was hoping they would be banned. His reason for backing the decision was the waste associated with the signs.
