In a normal time for the world, the medical profession is a stressful. During a pandemic, it’s probably the most stressful.
Dr. Joanna Oda is an Associate Medical Officer of Health for the Halton Region. She is a Public Health Physician. What that means is she looks at the health of the public at a broader level. Rather than working with individuals, she views her patients as the entire community.
When thinking about her younger self, she didn’t initially want to become a doctor for various reasons. It wasn’t until volunteering with several organizations that she decided that she wanted to go into this field and help the community.
When she isn’t helping handle the COVID-19 pandemic with the Halton Region, Dr. Oda can be found knitting. She says it’s definitely been a stress relieving hobby that she picked up over the last year.
Her advice for young people in the community is simple: do what you’re passionate about. Don’t box yourself in to something that doesn’t spark joy.
