The Milton Chamber of Commerce is providing local companies with free COVID-19 rapid testing kits.
15,000 kits landed in Milton this week and are being stored at Gordon Food Service for the time being. President and CEO of the Chamber, Scott McCammon, says the goal is to help protect Milton’s small businesses and their employees.
Any local business with 150 or fewer employees qualifies to sign up for the testing kits.
The tests are considered the less-invasive version where you swab the inside of each nostril with results available in 15-minutes. If an employee tests positive for COVID-19 through the rapid testing kit, they are advised to then get another test through Halton Healthcare.
McCammon says this is critical for the residents who cannot work from home. Many people are still going into work and this will allow for employers to be able to make sure that each employee is safe and healthy. It’s a good reminder for people to continue to be tested even with the vaccine rollout in full swing.
The kits will be distributed starting on Tuesday, May 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the Town of Milton’s Hugh Foster Hall. The small event is expected to be attended by Milton MP Adam van Koeverden, as well as Milton MPP Parm Gill. Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz was hopefully going to attend, but has been advised to avoid the gathering under the provincial shutdown/stay-at-home orders. Speaking with myFM this week, he says that he hopes small business owners take advantage of this great opportunity.
You can sign up through this link.
The distribution will run on 15-minute time slots, allowing for four businesses per hour. This will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. Walk-ups will not be permitted.
