The Halton Region has provided an update through its Medical Officer of Health.
In a video, Dr. Hamidah Meghani touches on COVID-19 and the vaccination clinics. She says the current third wave has the potential to be the worst one yet.
There is a brightside, as the rollout of the vaccine continues. In Halton, residents 60-years and older can now book vaccination appointments. They, along with Indigenous people 55 and older, staff and essential caregivers from long-term care or retirement homes in Halton who have not received their first dose, health care workers identified as highest priority, very high priority and high priority (providing direct, non-virtual care at least once a week) who live OR work in Halton, and adults receiving chronic home care through a Local Health Integration Network or a home care agency, are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through one of six vaccination clinics.
Dr. Meghani says that even with the vaccine rollout, residents need to continue following health and safety protocols.
She asks that residents continue to remain socially distant, while continuing to interact with loved ones and family members virtually. Feel free to get out and about for exercise, but do what you can to stop the spread of the virus in order to “make this third wave of the virus the last wave.”
