Two more Halton residents are dead from COVID-19, according to the latest stats from the Halton Region.
The two residents were from Halton Hills, giving the town 54 deaths. Oakville has 59 deaths, Burlington has 49 deaths, and Milton has 36 deaths. Halton has 198 deaths total.
Across Halton, there are 38 new cases. That brings the Region to 9576 cases total. With 9127 resolved cases and 198 deaths, Halton now has 251 active cases – two less than Tuesday’s count. The Region says that of the 9576 total cases, 9276 were confirmed positive while 300 were considered probable cases.
In Milton, we have nine new cases. The total is now up to 3017 cases. With 2927 resolved cases and 36 deaths, Milton is now at 54 active cases – the same as yesterday. The Region says that of the 3017 total cases, 2920 were confirmed positive while 97 were considered probable cases.
The Halton Region is also detailing the number of COVID-19 variant cases. It says that 90 total variant cases have been found in Halton: 75 were screen positive and 15 were confirmed variants of concern. Milton has reportedly had 23 total variant cases: 15 were screened positive while eight were confirmed variants of concern.
Looking at Milton’s major ongoing outbreaks:
- Since Sunday, January 10th, there have been 34 reported cases at Allendale. 19 are residents, three are staff members, four are unspecified, and the other eight are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases. There have been seven deaths at the LTCH: six were residents, while the other one is still not specified.
- On Monday, January 18th, the Halton Region reported an outbreak at what is classified as ‘Congregate Living – 37’. It’s believed that this is Maplehurst Correctional Facility, which was reportedly experiencing an outbreak at the same time of the same magnitude. As of the time of writing, there have been 300 total cases reported during this outbreak. 191 have been residents, 13 have been staff members, and 96 are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases. There has now been one death at the Correctional Facility. It’s been determined to be a ‘non-Halton’ case.
