myFM News presents ‘Ask a Cop’.
Listeners submitted questions for Halton Police Media Relations Officer, Constable Ryan Anderson. A resident asked about drivers constantly speeding on local roads. Constable Anderson says speeding in a school zone is going to look different than on Highway 401.
He adds that officers are reasonable and so 1-2 km/h over the speed limit won’t warrant a traffic stop. That said, going over the speed limit is going over the speed limit. They’d rather have motorists follow the assigned speed limit on every road.
Some residents may feel that Milton has a speeding issue. Constable Anderson dives into the numbers (from February).
Staying on the roads – with recent heavy snowfalls in our area, another listener asked about drivers leaving the fresh snow on their vehicle when driving around town. They wanted to know if not brushing the snow off your vehicle could actually get you a ticket. Constable Anderson says the snow itself won’t warrant a traffic stop, unless it affects your visibility.
Not having a clear view of the road while driving could get you a $110 fine. He adds that the snow can be a hazard to other motorists as it could also fly off onto other vehicles.
The same listener who asked the question noted that they had seen a large transport truck last year with a few feet of snow on top of its trailer. Constable Anderson says that officers will notice that as an unsafe situation and stop the vehicle.
‘Ask a Cop’ will return next week with more of your questions being answered. Reach out if you have any questions that you’d like answered by a local police officer.
