Milton’s Town Council is a big fan of the official plan.
‘We Make Milton‘ will provide a blueprint of how to development our town through to 2051. Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz says the Town is looking to continue developing its diversity and culture.
“Over the years, Milton has evolved into a diverse, young and innovative community. The new vision for our Official Plan reflects our growing community, provides choice for residents and makes Milton a Place of Possibility for all. Choice will shape our community to the year 2051.”
The Town Councillor for Milton’s Ward 1, Kristina Tesser Derksen, says a lot of prep has gone into it so far.
On Episode 33 of ‘This Week in Milton‘, Regional Councillor Colin Best provided his take on the official plan. He says he’d like to see a balanced community where people live and work, and not be forced out of the area due to employment issues or retirement.
After Council’s most recent meeting, the official plan entered Phase 3. Councillor Tesser Derksen says it’s about answering the big questions.
She adds that input from residents will continue, despite the visioning phase being over. This includes diving deeper into issues like climate and sustainability, as well as engagement and consultation with indigenous groups. Keeping the door open to those areas allows the plan to be readjusted in the event of any gaps becoming apparent.
Four discussion papers will be drafted with recommended land-use planning policies that focus on four key themes developed through the visioning process – living, working, moving and growing in Milton.
