A tragic situation down the 401 in Ingersoll has triggered a warning from the Ontario Provincial Police and the Office of the Chief Coroner.
A 20-year-old Bayham woman was found dead in a parking lot of a business on Monday, February 15th. The death is not being treated as suspicious and no foul play is suspected.
This has caused the police to talk about the dangers of sitting in a running vehicle, even if it is outside, as carbon monoxide leaks can be deadly even in this situation.
myFM News spoke with the Acting Sergeant in the area, Ed Sanchuk.
Sanchuk says it was important not only to the Coroner’s Office and the police to get this message out, but also for the woman’s family so that this kind of tragedy can be avoided in the future.
Part of the message includes telling drivers to make periodic checks to ensure your tailpipe is free of snow and that vehicles that are more than five years old should have a mechanic check the exhaust system annually.
