Police forces in Ontario are helping promote the 211 service.
Thursday, February 11th is 211 Day and OPP Inspector Krista Miller says the service helps police and other first responders by taking on some of the inquiries that are often misdirected to 911 operators.
Miller says while most calls to 911 are of an immediate need, they usually don’t require the services of a first responder, adding that 211 will allow the public to get information and access they need in a timely fashion.
United Way Halton & Hamilton president and CEO, Brad Park, says it’s about connecting and making social services in communities more accessible.
“The 211 service helps make our community’s social services more visible and accessible to those in need, including all the programs we fund. 211 is a lifeline for the most challenging barriers our friends and neighbours experience, especially during this difficult time.”
211 is for information on community-based health, social and government services. It is the number to call when you need help but aren’t sure where to turn.
