The Milton Film Festival has wrapped up another year.
This year was its first attempt at doing a virtual festival. The 2020 Milton Film Festival was fortunate enough to be held just before the beginning of the pandemic.
The Director and Founder of the festival, Jennifer Smith, says she was very pleased with the whole event.
She does miss the feeling of hanging out in the lobby and chit chatting with the other festival goers. Fortunately, her and other viewers were able to keep in touch through social media to talk about the films that were shown. They even had guests from across the country – from British Columbia to Athens, Greece. Having special guests appear for discussions on their films was not something they could’ve had when the festival was strictly an in-person event.
Smith says she really enjoyed some of the aspects that being online brought to the festival.
Picking a favourite movie from the week is like picking a favourite child for Smith. If there was one that truly hit every note for her, she’d have to go with ‘Jasmine Road’. It details a refugee family who finds themselves in Alberta with a widowered rancher.
Local movie buffs will be able to watch virtual screenings throughout the year. That way residents can keep busy during the pandemic. You can stay up-to-date on those by signing up to its email list through the festival’s website.
