More than 70 cases and another death are on the latest COVID-19 update from the Halton Region.
The death is an Oakville resident, giving the town 53 deaths and Halton 155 deaths total.
Across Halton, there are 74 new cases. That brings the total number to 8182 cases. With 7563 resolved cases and 155 deaths, Halton is now at 464 active cases – nine more than yesterday.
In Milton, we have just eight new cases. That brings our total to 2586 cases. With 2367 resolved cases and 29 deaths, Milton is now at 190 active cases – five less than yesterday.
The big spike in new cases today comes from Burlington. The city reported 44 of the 74 new cases in Halton today.
On Monday, January 18th, the Halton Region reported an outbreak at what was classified as ‘Congregate Living – 37’. It’s believed that this is Maplehurst Correctional Facility, which was reportedly experiencing an outbreak at the same time of the same magnitude. As of the time of writing, there have 144 total cases reported during this outbreak. 89 have been residents, six have been staff members, five are currently unspecified, and 44 are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases.
Taking a look at the ongoing institutional outbreaks in Milton:
- Since December 16th, there have been 57 cases reported at Revera Birkdale Place. 40 of the cases have been residents, eleven have been staff members, three are unspecified, and three are ‘non-Halton’ cases. There has been one death associated to the outbreak at the retirement home. It was a resident.
- As of Sunday, January 10th, a third outbreak has begun at Allendale. As of the time of writing, there are 11 reported cases. Six are residents, three are unspecified, and the other two are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases. There is one death reported at the LTCH. It was a resident.
