COVID-19: Halton resident dies, active cases slightly drop

Another Halton resident is reportedly from COVID-19.

This is the 154th death in Halton from the virus. The person was a resident of Burlington, giving the city 35 deaths total. Oakville remains at 52 deaths, Halton Hills has had 38, and Milton has had 29 deaths total.

Across Halton, there are 52 new cases. There have been 8108 total cases. With 7499 resolved cases and 154 deaths, the Region is now at 455 active cases – 14 less than yesterday.

In Milton, we have 16 new cases. We now have 2578 total cases. With 2354 resolved cases and 29 deaths, Milton now has 195 active cases – five less than yesterday.

On Monday, January 18th, the Halton Region reported an outbreak at what was classified as ‘Congregate Living – 37’. It’s believed that this is Maplehurst Correctional Facility, which was reportedly experiencing an outbreak at the same time of the same magnitude. As of the time of writing, there have 140 total cases reported during this outbreak. 86 have been residents, six have been staff members, eight are currently unspecified, and 40 are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases.

Taking a look at the ongoing institutional outbreaks in Milton:

• Since December 16th, there have been 57 cases reported at Revera Birkdale Place. 40 of the cases have been residents, eleven have been staff members, three are unspecified, and three are ‘non-Halton’ cases. There has been one death associated to the outbreak at the retirement home. It was a resident.
• As of Sunday, January 10th, a third outbreak has begun at Allendale. As of the time of writing, there are 11 reported cases. Six are residents, three are unspecified, and the other two are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases. There is one death reported at the LTCH. It was a resident.

Below are the numbers for Ontario, including 1,740 new cases province-wide. There have been 258,700 total cases in Ontario.
