The Halton Regional Police Service has provided an update on the reported gunfire in Oakville on Friday afternoon.
It says that at roughly 1:20 p.m., officers attended the scene at a home on Lakeshore Road West, near Whittington Place, for reports of gun shots in the area. With Appleby College nearby, the school was placed into a hold and secure. Residents in the area nearby were told to take shelter in their basements.
Several officers attended the scene including uniform members, Tactical Rescue Unit and K9 officers, crisis negotiators and investigators. Two people had barricaded themselves in the home and had refused to come outside.
Just after 3:00 p.m., a female had exited the home and was escorted from the premises by officers. Negotiations continue with the second person, who was still inside the home, until roughly 10:30 p.m.. That was when a male had exited the home and safely taken into custody by members of the Tactical Rescue Unit. The Halton Police says that no one else was in the building. No one involved in the long negotiations sustained any significant injuries.
