There are now 100 deaths total from COVID-19 in all of Halton.
That means three people in the region have reportedly died, as of Thursday, December 24th. One of the deaths was a Milton resident, giving Milton 24 deaths total. The other two appear to be Oakville residents as the town is now at 35 deaths on the Region’s webpage. Burlington remains at 24 deaths heading into Christmas, while Halton Hills is at 17.
Despite the one-case increase in the overall death number for Milton, two deaths are being reported under Milton’s four outbreaks. A resident at Martindale Gardens has died. It’s the first death of the outbreak at the retirement home. The outbreak has been ongoing since December 14th. In that time, five cases have been reported: one resident, two staff members, and two ‘non-Halton’ cases.
The other death being reported under the Milton outbreaks happened at the Milton District Hospital. The person is listed as a resident for the hospital. It is the first death there since the outbreak was reported on December 12th. Since then, seven cases have been reported: five residents and two ‘non-Halton’ cases.
As for the other outbreaks in Milton:
- Allendale’s outbreak has been ongoing since November 13th. It now has 86 total cases. 59 have been residents, 13 have been staff members, two are unspecified, and 12 are ‘non-Halton’ cases. There have been 18 deaths. All 18 have been confirmed as residents.
- The most recent outbreak in our town is Revera Birkdale Place. Since December 16th, it has had 41 reported cases. Three are confirmed as staff members by the Region of Halton, while 38 others are still unspecified.
Across Halton, there are 80 new cases. The region’s total case count is at 5304 cases. With 4727 resolved cases and 100 deaths, Halton has 477 active cases – 25 more than what was reported on Wednesday.
In Milton, we have 24 new cases. Our total number is up to 1627 cases. With 1435 resolved cases and 24 deaths, Milton is now at 168 active cases – 10 more than what was reported on Wednesday.
There will be no COVID-19 totals for December 25th and December 26th. The Region of Halton says “staff will continue to respond to all COVID-19 cases and contacts reported over the holidays.” It adds that with totals not being released for two consecutive days, residents should expect the numbers for Sunday, December 27th to be far higher than the average. This will occur again on January 2nd, as the Region of Halton will also not report the totals on New Year’s Day.
