If there is one thing the US Election is short in, it’s certainly not drama.
The race came down to the wire, spreading across several days, and only a handful of states being the ones to decide the fate of the White House.
With an interesting twist, sitting President Donald Trump called for ballot counting to be stopped in states he was either leading in, or was at one time leading in during election night. That led to his base heading to counting stations calling for the count to be stopped, with, according to US media reports, some going as far as saying there’s not an equal representation of both parties on-site.
Fanshawe College professor and political analyst Matt Farrell says that’s simply not the case.
It’s also interesting to note that in some locations, like Arizona, Trump supporters were calling for the votes to be counted.
Farrell adds that there are similar parallels between the 2020 Election and the race in 2000 between George W. Bush and Al Gore.
Joe Biden has since been named President-elect, Kamala Harris the Vice-President-elect, per multiple US networks. The wait is now on a concession speech from sitting President Trump as his team continues to threaten legal action and re-counts.
Should the transition happen in a more smoother fashion, Biden would officially be named the 46th President of the United States during an inauguration ceremony in January, 2021.
