With more people going online to work or do their shopping, the OPP are advising people to be aware of scams when on the internet.
October is Cyber Safety Awareness Month and the OPP are offering tips to stay safe while you are online.
OPP Inspector Krista Miller says adults not only have to watch what they are doing online, but also what their children are up to on the computer.
She suggests parents set computer terminals in common areas of the home and to keep track of usernames and passwords.
When it comes to online scams, Miller says a lot of people have lost money due to cyber fraud.
She says people can avoid being a victim of scams by doing their research on the seller or the company before any money is exchanged.
