A tragic accident has seen some upside as of late.
Milton-resident Samer Khalil was diagnosed as a paraplegic after 1700 lbs of heavy clay fell in on him. He was in a four-metre deep trench working on a water main connection when it happened.
Since then, his family and friends put together a GoFundMe page to help raise funds. His was the only income in a family of six, so the accident heavily impacted them financially, let alone emotionally.
At the time of writing, the campaign has raised over $52,000. They say in the description, “any donations will be going towards equipment needed for accessible living at home like a wheelchair, stairs lift, special bed and renovations and other needed items and of course medical expenses.”
The family hopes to one day payback their friends for their donations.
myFM News is working on getting a formal interview with the family. In the meantime, you can donate to the campaign here.
