If you get a call from a person claiming to be a relative asking for money, you should always check with other family members before acting.
A list of helpful tips has been provided by the Halton Police.
- Ask the caller personal questions only your grandchild or family member would know, such as their date of birth.
- Ask the caller for a number you can call them back at. This gives you time to verify the information with other family members. Be suspicious if the caller refuses.
- Call other family members or friends for advice before sending any money to anyone.
If you have been a victim of fraud, please call the Halton Regional Police Service non-emergency line at 905-825-4777 or call the Fraud Intake Office at 905-465-8741.
