myFM’s second annual All Hands on Deck Food Drive is today!
We’re accepting food donations at John’s No Frills in Milton, with proceeds going to Food4Kids Halton.
The Executive Director for Food4Kids Halton, Gayle Kabbash, says food drives are a great way to support their organization.
Kabbash adds that COVID-19 has impacted Food4Kids tremendously.
She explains.
Kabbash says people tend to pay their rent and hydro before getting groceries. With people losing their jobs during the pandemic, it’s been a lot harder for people to go out and purchase food. There have been families that they wouldn’t have helped prior to the pandemic that now require help with feeding themselves and their children. That’s one of the reasons why they switched to grocery store gift cards back in March/April.
Parents shouldn’t worry about the start of the school year. Whatever September will end up looking like, Kabbash wants you to know that things won’t just change out of the blue.
When it comes to the schools that Food4Kids Halton partners with, Kabbash says a lot goes into those partnerships and she is grateful to have the school boards on board.
She wants to send a message to the Milton community.
The list of items in need hasn’t changed much from this time last year. It includes things like large cans of soup, baked beans, Sidekicks packages, (nut-free) granola bars, canned pastas (Alphaghetti, noodles, Chef Boyardee), as well as grocery store gift cards.
The myFM All Hands on Deck Food Drive will be on Thursday, August 13th at John’s No Frills on Derry Road in Milton.
It will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..
myFM will be live on location all day.
If you’d like to donate but don’t feel comfortable with showing up in-person, that is okay. Food4Kids Halton is taking donations on their website. To donate, click here.
